And the Nobel Goes to…Your Brain

How Nobel Prize-winning neuroscience is illuminating the future of brain health—and why the next great technology frontier may be inside our own heads.

October 7, 2026 | By Kim Lavine, Founder & CEO, Hypersence

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine put light-based neuroscience on the world stage.

Karl Deisseroth, Peter Hegemann, and Georg Nagel were awarded the Nobel Prize for discoveries that led to optogenetics—groundbreaking science demonstrating how light-sensitive proteins can be used to control the activity of neurons.

For those of us pioneering light-based neurotechnology, this was a landmark moment for the field.

But it also reinforced something I've been thinking about a lot lately.

Sell aspirin, not vitamins.

My mentor taught me this invaluable lesson years ago. Don't simply offer something interesting or desirable. Solve a problem people urgently need solved.

Smart Glasses Are Exciting. But What About the Brain Behind Them?

Look at the enormous excitement surrounding smart glasses and augmented reality.

They can give us directions, take pictures, display information, and increasingly bring artificial intelligence into our field of vision.

Amazing technology.

But those are vitamins.

Meanwhile, we are facing a global cognitive health crisis.

More than 3 billion people worldwide live with neurological conditions, and tens of millions are living with dementia. Alzheimer's disease alone affects millions of Americans, and its impact will grow as our population ages.

The scale of the problem is enormous—and the need for accessible, effective brain-health solutions has never been greater.

At the same time, we are entering an AI-driven economy in which our ability to learn, remember, focus, solve problems, and adapt may become more valuable than ever.

No matter how smart AI gets, the brain remains fundamental to our success and to achieving our dreams of a better life.

Supporting cognitive health isn't just a luxury. It's a necessity.

And that is why we created MemorySPEX™.

The Science Behind MemorySPEX™

At Hypersence, we're pioneering a new category of consumer wearable technology we call NeuroWellness™.

Our patent-pending MemorySPEX™ glasses are designed to deliver 40 Hz gamma-frequency visual stimulation using ambient light.

The technology draws inspiration from a growing body of neuroscience research examining how gamma-frequency stimulation affects brain activity.

Research at institutions including MIT has explored whether 40 Hz sensory stimulation can influence neural activity and biological processes associated with Alzheimer's disease.

Early studies have produced promising findings, including changes in neural activity, brain structure, and certain measures of cognition. Larger clinical studies are needed to establish the effectiveness and long-term benefits of these approaches.

MIT-affiliated research also helped lead to the development of Cognito Therapeutics, which is pursuing 40 Hz sensory stimulation as an investigational treatment for Alzheimer's disease.

The emerging science is compelling.

And we believe it opens the door to an exciting new frontier in consumer wellness.

Making Neurotechnology Accessible

Our vision at Hypersence is to translate sophisticated neuroscience into an incredibly simple consumer format.

As easy as putting on glasses.

We call this emerging category NeuroWellness™—at the intersection of neurotechnology, cognitive performance, and consumer wellness.

While others are developing wearable technology to change how we interact with the world, we're exploring how wearable technology can support the brain that makes those interactions meaningful.

Our mission is to help millions achieve dreams of a better life through enhanced cognitive performance.

Your Brain Is Your Most Valuable Asset

We believe the human brain—not artificial intelligence—is one of the next great frontiers in technology.

People have spent billions building machines that can think.

Now it's time to invest in technologies designed to support the extraordinary human brain.

Because in an increasingly AI-driven world, your greatest competitive advantage isn't necessarily the technology you use.

It's the brain you bring to it.

That's not a vitamin.

That's aspirin.
