By Kim Lavine, Founder & CEO of Hypersence
Most founders talk about market fit, exit strategy, and disruption. I talk about brain health—because a brain aneurysm nearly took my life.
Me in ICU with my beautiful son Dylan and his wife Nokomis
Several years ago, I founded Hypersence to pioneer a new category in cognitive health technology. I believed then—and still do—that brain health is one of the most urgent, underserved needs of our time.
Not long after starting this journey, I suffered a life-threatening brain aneurysm. There was no warning. No symptoms. Just a moment when everything went dark. Still, I consider myself extraordinarily lucky. Half the people who had what I had die instantly.
I won’t pretend the experience started my mission—but it changed me. It gave me a deeper understanding of what’s at stake, intense gratitude for every moment of life, and an even greater sense of urgency to help people protect and strengthen their most important asset: their brain.
Enter MemorySPEX®
At Hypersence, we’ve developed MemorySPEX®, a patent-pending wearable that uses light and AI to improve cognitive function up to 50%—as easy as putting on a pair of glasses.
I knew we were on to something big when we won Stanford’s “Chairman’s Choice” award, competing with startups from around the world. Fast forward years of crushing rehabilitation, prayers, and pure grit and determination. We’re preparing to launch globally in January 2026 at the most powerful tech event in the world, CES 2026, where we’ve been vetted for a CES Innovation Award. We’re entering the market as a drug-free alternative to the $14B brain supplement category, while also preparing to file as an FDA Class II device for the treatment of Alzheimer’s.
As an entrepreneur, I know the global brain health wearable market is projected to reach $895B by 2032. But for me, this is bigger than market potential—it’s personal.
Brain Health Is Human Health
Since COVID, brain fog, cognitive fatigue, and memory loss have become everyday realities for millions. One in six people globally now experience measurable cognitive decline.
For those trying to regain clarity after long COVID…
For those watching a loved one slip into heartbreaking memory loss…
For those just trying to focus again in a distracted world…
MemorySPEX is for you.
Everything Happens for a Reason
I don’t believe my aneurysm caused this mission—but I do believe it revealed something deeper: that brain health isn’t just a professional focus, it’s a personal calling. That God has a purp0se for me bigger than I ever dreamed.
I believe everything happens for a reason.
Everyday I reflect upon how grateful I am to be here. I’m even more grateful to be building something that could help millions of people think more clearly, live more fully, and reclaim the power of their brains to achieve dreams of a better life.
Thank you for joining me in this journey.
Warm regards,
Kim Lavine
