From Hospital Bed to Global Launch - My 4 Year Journey Back to Life

Four years ago this week, I survived a ruptured brain aneurysm—something that kills half of the people it strikes instantly. I was unbelievably lucky just to wake up.

But surviving was only the beginning of what turned out to be a long journey.

💫 The Day Everything Changed

I have no memory of the event. From what I’m told, my youngest son found me unconscious on the kitchen floor and ran to get the neighbors, who called an ambulance.

The first hospital turned me away—they considered me too serious a case—and I was transferred to the Hauenstein Brain Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, a premiere neurological facility an hour from home.

I started my recovery in a hospital bed, floating in and out of consciousness, covered in sensors, wires, and tubes, unable even to eat. When I look at the photos of my oldest son holding my hand with heartbreak written on his face, I can only imagine the pain it caused him.

💫 Learning to Walk Again

After a month in the hospital, I was relocated to a nursing home to begin rehabilitation. It was the height of the COVID epidemic—spaces were overcrowded and isolation was intense.

I had already battled COVID after returning from a business trip to Milan when it was ground zero for the virus. That experience, and later contracting it again in recovery, only deepened my gratitude to still be alive.

I had to learn to walk and talk again, like a child. I couldn’t get out of bed without help and depended on the nursing staff for everything. Each day I met with speech, physical, and occupational therapists.

Sometimes I would wheel myself to a window to watch traffic go by, dreaming of the day I could go home to my autistic son, who was living alone without me.

💫 Rediscovering Purpose

After another month, I was released for outpatient therapy at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. My oldest son and his fiancée—who lived across the street—took me in and drove me to therapy every day.

I graduated from a wheelchair to a walker, then a cane. Slowly, I began rebuilding my life—including my role as Founder of Hypersence and my mission to pioneer MemorySPEX®, wearable technology that improves brain function.

When I finally returned home, my youngest son had fared remarkably well, managing school and shopping on his own. I couldn’t stand being idle any longer, so I began working for the grocery delivery service Shipt. It became my therapy—physical, mental, and emotional—restoring my confidence and self-respect.

Soon I could walk unaided, but recovery was still humbling. Weight gain, uneven hair growth, and moments of doubt reminded me that recovery, like purpose, cannot be rushed.

💫 Bringing MemorySPEX to Life

Realizing everything happens for a reason, I came to see that God had given me a mission. I threw myself into rebuilding Hypersence and bringing MemorySPEX® to life.

I traveled everywhere I could—New York, Detroit, Chicago, Nashville—again and again. I attended every investor event, every networking opportunity, every room that might move us forward. I met hundreds of people, carried investor folders from city to city, and refused to quit, no matter how exhausted or uncertain I felt.

Now, four years later, I look up and realize what I’ve accomplished. Against all odds, I’m still here—stronger, wiser, and about to launch MemorySPEX globally.

MemorySPEX is a patent-pending wearable that uses light and AI to enhance brain health and cognitive performance—helping people achieve dreams of a better life.

💫 Faith in the Unseen

Looking back, I see a divine thread running through it all. I didn’t survive by chance—I survived to bring this life-changing technology to the world.

There were dark nights when quitting would have been the easiest path, but I didn’t.

Here’s to perseverance, purpose, and faith in the unseen.
If you’re walking your own hard road right now—keep walking. The miracle might be waiting just one step ahead.
